Edmonton Oilers vs Dallas Stars

Game 4: Dallas wins at Edmonton, 3-2. This sweep for Dallas is its second, and marks the third time that Edmonton has been swept from an NHL best-of-7 series. In Prelim round best-of-7 Game 4 action, the Dallas Stars improve their record to 4-1 (the Minnesota North Stars were an NHL-best 4-0), while Edmonton's record in such games falls to 4-5.

Game 3: Dallas wins at Edmonton, 3-2. This win for Dallas was its first in four tries in Game 3 of best-of-7 Preliminary round action. In 1994 NHL best-of-7 Preliminary round action, Dallas opened its series with a 3-0 lead, and won Game 4 to sweep the series. In a Preliminary round best-of-7 series, Edmonton has never before trailed the series 0-2 or 0-3. Edmonton has been swept twice in best-of-7 play (in the 1983 NHL Finals, and in the 1992 NHL Semifinals).

Game 2: Dallas wins vs. Edmonton, 3-2. In NHL best-of-7 preliminary round action, twice before has Dallas opened the series with two home wins (1994 and 1998); Dallas won the series in both cases. The Minnesota North Stars opened their 1972 Quarterfinals series in like manner, but the North Stars lost that series in seven games. Three times has Edmonton opened a series with two road losses; the Oilers lost each of those three series.

Game 1: Dallas wins vs. Edmonton, 2-1. In NHL best-of-7 preliminary round action, four times has the home team opened the series with a 2-1 victory. The series record of those four home teams is 2-2. Three straight years (1990-92) did the New York Rangers open a preliminary round at home with a 2-1 win; their series record during that span was 2-1.

Pre-series history. In NHL best-of-7 Preliminary round action, the Dallas Stars' series record is 2-2 (the Minnesota North Stars had a 1-3 record) and the Edmonton Oilers' series record is 7-1; Dallas's game record is 12-10 (54.55%) (Minnesota's was 11-14 (44.00%)) and Edmonton's game record is 31-20 (60.78%).
