Schedule and 2004-05 Results

Game 1 on Sunday, 08 May: Washington loses at Miami, 105-pts-86
Game 2 on Tuesday, 10 May: Washington loses at Miami, 108-pts-102
Game 3 on Thursday, 12 May: Miami wins at Washington, 102-pts-95
Game 4 on Saturday, 14 May: Miami wins at Washington, 99-pts-95

SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: With their 99-pts-95 MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series Game 4 victory in Washington over the Wizards, the Miami Heat become the first NBA team to sweep both their best-of-7 NBA Preliminary round series and their best-of-7 NBA Quarterfinals series in the same playoff season. The last NBA team to sweep consecutive series was the 2003 New Jersey Nets, in the Quarterfinals (series 897) and the Semifinals (series 900) of that year. The four-game sweep is the 19th in the NBA Quarterfinals, the 53rd in the Quarterfinals (NBA and NHL), the 45th in the NBA (all rounds), and the 160th overall (all rounds). With the win, the Miami Heat improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Quarterfinals (Conference Semifinals). With the loss, Washington as the Wizards falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Quarterfinals.

After Game 3: Even with MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 947 Game 3 in Washington, the Miami Heat still defeated the Wizards 102-pts-95 to take a 3-games-nil series 947 lead. The Washington Wizards thus become the 243rd MLB/NBA/NHL team to face a 3-games-nil best-of-7 playoff series deficit, with the hopes of becoming only the fourth team to win their series under such circumstances. The Miami Heat have 1-0 series and Game 4 records when leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil. Washington is trailing an NBA best-of-7 playoff series 3-games-nil for the first time as the Wizards; as the Bullets, their series record was 0-1 and their Game 4 record was 0-1 under such circumstances.

After Game 2: The Miami Heat once again hosted and defeated the Washington Wizards, winning 108-pts-102 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 947 Game 2. Miami now holds a 2-games-nil series 947 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Miami Heat have a series record of 2-0 and a Game 3 record of 1-1. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Washington Wizards have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 3 record of 1-0. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series, teams losing Games 1-2 on the road in the Quarterfinals round have a 2-71 series record. The last team in this position to win the series was the Los Angeles Lakers in series 932 (in the 2004 NBA Quarterfinals vs. the San Antonio Spurs).

After Game 1: The Miami Heat hosted and defeated the Washington Wizards 105-pts-86 to take MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 947 Game 1. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Miami Heat have a series record of 2-1 and a Game 2 record of 2-1. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, Washington as the Wizards has a series record of 1-0 and a Game 2 record of 0-1. Miami won series 947 Game 1 at home by 19 points. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series from 1947 through the 2005 NBA Preliminary round, inclusive, teams winning Game 1 at home by 19+ points have a 40-9 (.816) series record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2004-05 regular season, Miami finished 14 games ahead of Washington. From 1947 through the 2005 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 14 regular-season games, they have posted a 12-0 (1.000) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 947 is the second best-of-7 playoff series for Washington as the Wizards, and the seventh for Miami. In best-of-7 playoff series, Washington as the Wizards has a 1-0 series record, a 0-0 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 0-1 Game 1 record, while Miami has a 3-3 series record, a 1-2 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 3-3 Game 1 record. Series 947 is the first best-of-7 NBA playoff meeting between Washington and Miami.
