SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: The Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 111-pts-86 to complete a 4-games-2 win of best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009. With the series 1009 victory, the Golden State Warriors improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in the NBA Preliminary round. With the series 1009 loss, the Dallas Mavericks see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in the NBA Preliminary round. The win order for the victorious Golden State Warriors was WLWWLW in series 1009: Series 1009 thus becomes the second in the NBA Preliminary round, the 16th in the NBA (all rounds), and the 33rd in the MLB, NBA, and NHL (all rounds) to follow this win order. The series 1009 win was the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series victory for the Golden State Warriors in 31 years; their previous best-of-7 NBA playoff series victory occurred in series 316, in which they defeated the Detroit Pistons in the 1976 NBA Quarterfinals. And, most noteworthy of all, the Golden State Warriors defeated an opponent behind which they had finished 25 full games in the 2006-07 NBA regular season. Never before - in the NBA, NHL, or MLB - had a team 1) finished as many as 25 regular-season games (or 50 regular-season points, in the NHL case) behind its best-of-7 playoff series opponent, and 2) defeated that opponent in that playoff series. The previous such MLB/NBA/NHL record was 22.5 regular-season games: In series 2 (the 1906 MLB Finals), the 93-58 Chicago White Sox defeated the 116-36 Chicago Cubs to win the 1906 World Series. The previous such NBA record was seventeen regular-season games: In series 391, the 40-42 Kansas City Kings bested the 57-25 Phoenix Suns in the 1981 NBA Quarterfinals, and in series 319, the 42-40 Phoenix Suns defeated [ironically] the 59-23 Golden State Warriors in the 1976 NBA Semifinals.

After Game 5: With best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009 back in Texas for Game 5, the host Dallas Mavericks trailed the Golden State Warriors 112-pts-103 with 3:08 left in the fourth quarter, but rallied to win 118-pts-112 and reduce the Golden State series 1009 lead to 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 3-1 and a Game 6 record of 3-1 (with the Game 6 and series losses occurring in their last such series - series 319 against the Phoenix Suns in the 1976 NBA Semifinals). When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Dallas Mavericks have a perfect series record of 0-5 and a Game 6 record of 1-4 with an active three-Game 6 losing streak.

After Game 4: The Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 103-pts-99 to take a 3-games-1 lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009. The Golden State Warriors thus lead a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1 for the first time. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 0-5 and a Game 5 record of 1-4.

After Game 3: With best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009 in Oakland for Games 3-4, the Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 109-pts-91 to take a 2-games-1 series 1009 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 2-1 and a Game 4 record of 0-3. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 2-7 and a Game 4 record of 5-4. The win in Oakland is the first home-court best-of-7 NBA playoff game victory for the Golden State Warriors in twenty years; their previous such win came over the Los Angeles Lakers in series 494 Game 4, during the 1987 NBA Quarterfinals (129-pts-121 was the score). The win breaks a four-game best-of-7 NBA playoff game losing streak on their home court for the Golden State Warriors.

After Game 2: On a night on which every home NBA and NHL team posted a victory, the Dallas Mavericks hosted and defeated the Golden State Warriors 112-pts-99, thereby tying best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Dallas Mavericks have a 4-3 series record and a 3-4 Game 3 record, while the Golden State Warriors have a 4-4 series record (with an active three-series loss streak) and a 3-5 Game 3 record. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series, teams that lose Game 1 at home but win Game 2 at home by a double-digit margin (such as Dallas) have an 18-15 (.546) series record with an active three-series winning streak. One of those 18 series winners was the Dallas Mavericks in series 899, as the Mavs defeated the Sacramento Kings in their 2003 NBA Quarterfinals series.

After Game 1: The Golden State Warriors visited and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 97-pts-85 to take a 1-game-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 4-2 and a Game 2 record of 1-5; when trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 5-7 and a Game 2 record of 6-6 (with an active three-Game 2 winning streak). The win is the first Game 1 victory by the Golden State Warriors in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series since series 319, in which the Warriors defeated the Phoenix Suns 128-pts-103 in their 1976 NBA Semifinals series Game 1.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2006-07 NBA regular season, Dallas finished 25 games ahead of Golden State. From 1947 through the 2006 NBA Finals, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 25 regular-season games, they have posted a 3-0 (1.000) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. (The largest difference in regular-season games between two best-of-7 NBA playoff series opponents ever, as of April 2007, was 26 games, in series 496 [in the 1987 NBA Semifinals] between the 65-17 Los Angeles Lakers and the 39-43 Seattle Supersonics -- the Lakers swept that series.) Best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1009 is the 13th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Golden State, and the 17th for Dallas. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Golden State has a 5-7 series record with an active five-series losing streak, a 0-0 Prelim-round series record, and a 6-6 Game 1 record with an active four-Game 1 losing streak, while Dallas has a 7-9 series record, a 3-1 Prelim-round record, and a 4-12 Game 1 record. Series 1009 is the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between Golden State and Dallas.
