SERIES NOTES:
After Game 6: The San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Phoenix Suns 114-pts-106 for a 4-games-2 victory in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015. The San Antonio Spurs thus improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 20-14 overall and 9-9 in the Quarterfinals, while that for the Phoenix Suns falls to 13-18 overall and 8-9 in the Quarterfinals. The win order by the San Antonio Spurs in series 1015 was WLWLWW: Series 1015 thus becomes the ninth NBA Quarterfinals series, the 20th NBA series (all rounds), and the 35th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to series completion. Ironically, the last NBA Quarterfinals series to follow the WLWLWW win order to completion was series 949 in the 2005 NBA Quarterfinals, when the Dallas Mavericks were ousted by ... the Phoenix Suns; Phoenix thus receives in series 1015 what it delivered in series 949.
After Game 5: Trailing by eleven points after the first half, the San Antonio Spurs rallied in Phoenix to defeat the Suns 88-pts-85 and take a 3-games-2 lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015. Leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 9-1 (with an active eight-series winning streak) and a Game 6 record of 7-3. Trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 2-8 and a Game 6 record of 4-6. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games from 1947 through 2006, teams such as San Antonio that trailed by eleven points at halftime on the road had a game record of only 5-66 (.070); series 1015 Game 5 thus rates as a comeback victory of note for the San Antonio Spurs.
After Game 4: Trailing by eight points after the third quarter, the Phoenix Suns rallied to defeat the Spurs in San Antonio 104-pts-98 and tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 5-6 and a Game 5 record of 5-6, while the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 6-5 (with an active three-series winning streak) and a Game 5 record of 6-5 (with an active three-Game 5 winning streak). In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games from 1947 through those of Sunday 13 May 2007, road teams trailing by eight points after three quarters (such as the Phoenix Suns in series 1015 Game 4) had a game record of only 13-67 (.163). The last road team to trail by eight points after three quarters but win a best-of-7 NBA playoff game: The Dallas Mavericks, in series 901 Game 1 in the 2003 NBA Semifinals ... also over the San Antonio Spurs (even though the 2003 Spurs would go on to win the NBA championship).
After Game 3: The San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Phoenix Suns 108-pts-101 to take a 2-games-1 lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 13-2 (with an active five-series winning streak) and a Game 4 record of 8-7. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 2-9 and a Game 4 record of 6-5.
After Game 2: Rebounding from its Game 1 loss, the Phoenix Suns defeated the San Antonio Spurs 101-pts-81 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 10-4 and a Game 3 record of 9-5, while the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 6-7 and a Game 3 record of 8-5. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series, teams that win Game 2 by 20+ points to tie the series have a 14-9 series record overall and a 9-4 series record when playing Games 1-2 at home.
After Game 1: The San Antonio Spurs visited and defeated the Phoenix Suns 111-pts-106 to take a 1-game-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 15-4 and a Game 2 record of 14-5. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 3-12 with an active seven-series losing streak, and a Game 2 record of 4-11 with an active seven-Game 2 losing streak.
Pre-series assessment: In the 2006-07 regular season, Phoenix finished three games ahead of San Antonio. From 1905 through the 2007 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by three regular-season games, they have posted an 11-12 (.478) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. Best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1015 is the 34th best-of-7 playoff series for San Antonio, and the 31st for Phoenix. In best-of-7 playoff series, San Antonio has a 19-14 series record, an 8-9 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 19-14 Game 1 record, while Phoenix has a 13-17 series record, an 8-8 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 15-15 Game 1 record. Series 1015 is the fourth best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between San Antonio and Phoenix: In the previous three, San Antonio won series 892 (in the 2003 NBA Preliminary round) and 952 (in the 2005 NBA Semifinals), while Phoenix won series 643 (in the 1993 NBA Quarterfinals).
