Post-series assessment: The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the New Orleans Hornets 4-games-2 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1142, marking the ninth consecutive best-of-7 NBA playoff series victory for the Lakers. With the series 1142 win, the Lakers improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 67-28 overall and 6-2 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1142 loss, the best-of-7 NBA playoff series record of the New Orleans Hornets falls to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the Preliminary round. The win order for the victorious Los Angeles Lakers in series 1142 was LWWLWW: Series 1142 thus becomes the third NBA Preliminary-round series, the eighth NBA series (all rounds), and the 27th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion.
Pre-series assessment: In the 2010-11 regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers finished eleven games ahead of New Orleans.
