Game 2 on Wednesday, 02 May: Utah loses at San Antonio, 114-pts-83
Game 3 on Saturday, 05 May: San Antonio wins at Utah, 102-pts-90
Game 4 on Monday, 07 May: San Antonio wins at Utah, 87-pts-81
SERIES NOTES:
After Game 4: The San Antonio Spurs visited and defeated the Utah Jazz 87-pts-81 to sweep MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1174, 4-games-nil. With the series 1174 victory, the San Antonio Spurs improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 26-18 overall and 8-2 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1174 loss, the Utah Jazz see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 11-17 overall and 3-3 in the Preliminary round. Series 1174 thus becomes the 15th NBA Preliminary-round series, the 61st NBA series (all rounds), and the 194th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow a 4-games-nil route to completion. Series 1174 is only the eighth best-of-7 NBA playoff series (and the first since series 1042, in which the Los Angeles Lakers swept the Denver Nuggets in their 2008 NBA Preliminary-round series) in which the swept team led a game after not a single quarter, so one-sided was series 1174.
After Game 3: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1174 in Salt Lake City for Games 3-4, the San Antonio Spurs visited and defeated the Utah Jazz 102-pts-90 to become the 303rd MLB/NBA/NHL team to take a 3-games-nil lead in a best-of-7 playoff series. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have an 8-0 series record and a 4-4 Game 4 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil, the Utah Jazz have a 0-2 series record and a 1-1 Game 4 record.
After Game 2: The San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Utah Jazz 114-pts-83 to take a 2-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1174. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 16-1 with an active seven-series winning streak, and a Game 3 record of 8-9. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Utah Jazz have a series record of 1-12 and a Game 3 record of 11-2. San Antonio has thus defeated Utah in series 1174 Games 1-2 by a combined 46 points, which ties for the sixth highest such total victory margin in best-of-7 NBA playoff history among teams winning Games 1-2.
After Game 1: Winning the battle of the Game 1 losing streaks, the San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Utah Jazz 106-pts-91 to take a 1-game-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1174. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 19-4 with an active four-series winning streak, and a Game 2 record of 17-6. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Utah Jazz have a series record of 2-13 and a Game 2 record of 2-13. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series from 1947 through 2011, inclusive, teams such as San Antonio which win Game 1 at home by 15 points have a series record of 9-0; one of those nine winners was the San Antonio Spurs themselves (in series 953, over the Detroit Pistons in the 2005 NBA Finals).
Pre-series assessment: In the 2011-12 NBA regular season, the San Antonio Spurs finished 14 games ahead of the Utah Jazz. From 1947 through the 2011 NBA Finals round, inclusive, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 14 regular-season games, they have posted a 15-0 (1.000) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1174 is the 28th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Utah, and the 44th for San Antonio. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Utah has an 11-16 series record, a 3-2 Preliminary-round series record, and a 12-15 Game 1 record with a four-Game 1 losing streak, while San Antonio has a 25-18 series record, a 7-2 Preliminary-round record, and a 23-20 Game 1 record with an active six-Game 1 losing streak. Series 1174 is the fourth best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between Utah and San Antonio: Utah won series 716 (1996 NBA Quarterfinals) and 765 (1998 NBA Quarterfinals), while San Antonio won series 1018 (2007 NBA Semifinals), so Utah holds a 2-1 lead.
