Game 2 on Wednesday, 24 April: Los Angeles Lakers lose at San Antonio, 102-pts-91

SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: The San Antonio Spurs visited and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 103-pts-82 to sweep MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1208, four-games-nil. Having achieved the series 1208 sweep, the San Antonio Spurs improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 28-19 overall and 9-2 in the Preliminary round. Having suffered the series 1208 sweep, the Los Angeles Lakers see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 68-31 overall and 7-3 in the Preliminary round. Series 1208 thus becomes the 17th best-of-7 NBA Preliminary-round series, the 64th best-of-7 NBA series (all rounds), and the 199th best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to end in a four-game sweep. Series 1208 becomes only the seventh best-of-7 NBA playoff series sweep in which the sweeping team won every game by a double-digit victory margin, and becomes the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series sweep in which the sweeping team won each of Games 1-2 by double digits and each of Games 3-4 by 20+ points. Series 1208 qualifies as a WhoWins™ best-of-7 Annihilation: San Antonio not only won four straight games but also led after each quarter of the series. The total margin of victory by the San Antonio Spurs over the Los Angeles Lakers in series 1208 was 75 points – the largest such total margin in a best-of-7 NBA Preliminary-round series lasting four games.

After Game 3: The San Antonio Spurs visited and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 120-pts-89 to take a 3-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1208. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a 10-0 series record and a 6-4 Game 4 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil, the L.A. Lakers have a 0-6 series record and an MLB/NBA/NHL-worst 0-6 Game 4 record. The Los Angeles Lakers thus become the 311th MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff team to fall behind 3-games-nil, and will attempt to become the fifth team and first NBA team to come back for a 4-games-3 victory. The 31-point victory by San Antonio is the largest victory margin in a best-of-7 NBA playoff game since series 1178 Game 5 (when the Heat in Miami defeated the Indiana Pacers 115-pts-83 in their 2012 Quarterfinals series), the largest in a Preliminary-round game since series 1174 Game 2 (when the Spurs in San Antonio defeated the Utah Jazz 114-pts-83 in their 2012 Preliminary-round series), and the largest by a road team since series 1112 Game 5 (when the Boston Celtics defeated the Cavaliers in Cleveland 120-pts-88 in their 2010 Quarterfinals series).

After Game 2: The San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 102-pts-91 to take a 2-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1208. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have an 18-2 series record and a 10-10 Game 3 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the L.A. Lakers have a 2-17 series record (with an active four-series losing streak) and a 13-6 Game 3 record. Series 1208 becomes the seventh best-of-7 NBA playoff series in which, with a 2-games-nil lead by the leading team, the Game 1 winning score equaled the Game 2 losing score. While San Antonio has an 18-2 series record upon leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the second such loss occurred in the last best-of-7 San Antonio playoff series (in series 1183, to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2012 NBA Semifinals), while the first such loss occurred to the Los Angeles Lakers (in series 932, in the 2004 NBA Quarterfinals) in the second such Lakers win upon having trailed a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil (and with a 2-17 series record in that situation).

After Game 1: The San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 91-pts-79 to take a 1-game-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1208. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a 21-5 series record and a 20-6 Game 2 record (with an active six-Game 2 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the L.A. Lakers have a 11-23 series record and a 15-19 Game 2 record. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series from 1947 through 2012, inclusive, teams which win Game 1 by 12 points (such as San Antonio in series 1208 Game 1) have a 19-6 series record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2012-13 NBA regular season, San Antonio finished 13 games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers. From 1947 through the 2012 NBA Finals round, inclusive, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 13 regular-season games, they have posted a 9-2 (.818) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1208 is the 99th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for the Los Angeles Lakers, and the 47th for San Antonio. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the L.A. Lakers have a 68-30 series record, a 7-2 Preliminary-round series record (with a five-series winning streak), and a 64-34 Game 1 record, while San Antonio has a 27-19 series record, an 8-2 Preliminary-round record, and a 26-20 Game 1 record. Series 1208 is the tenth best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio; the Lakers lead 6-3 in such series.
