Atlanta Hawks vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Schedule and 2015-16 Results
Regular Season Records: Cleveland 57-25, Atlanta 48-34
Game 1 on Monday, 02 May: Atlanta loses at Cleveland, 104-pts-93
Game 2 on Wednesday, 04 May: Atlanta loses at Cleveland, 123-pts-98
Game 3 on Friday, 06 May: Cleveland wins at Atlanta, 121-pts-108
Game 4 on Sunday, 08 May: Cleveland wins at Atlanta, 100-pts-99

SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: The Cleveland Cavaliers visited and defeated the Atlanta Hawks 100-pts-99 to complete a 4-games-nil best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1310 victory. With the series 1310 win, the Cleveland Cavaliers improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 15-9 overall and 6-4 in the Quarterfinals round. With the series 1310 loss, the Atlanta Hawks see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 8-23 overall and 3-16 in the Quarterfinals round. The win order for the victorious Cleveland Cavaliers in series 1310 was WWWW: Series 1310 thus becomes the 26th NBA Quarterfinals-round series, the 73rd NBA series (all rounds), and the 215th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The Cleveland Cavaliers now own an MLB/NBA/NHL-best 7-0 Game 4 record when leading a best-of-7 playoff series 3-games-nil. Cleveland trailed the Hawks in Atlanta by nine points after the first quarter of series 1310 Game 4. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games since 1947, inclusive, road teams down nine points after one quarter had a game record of 11-68 (.139). The 16 best-of-7 Quarterfinals series losses by the NBA Atlanta Hawks tie the NHL St. Louis Blues for most best-of-7 format NBA/NHL Quarterfinals losses - St. Louis is still active as of this writing in the Spring 2016 playoff season, against the Dallas Stars in series 1297. (The irony is that the precursor entity to the NBA Atlanta Hawks was the NBA St. Louis Hawks.)

After Game 3: The Cleveland Cavaliers visited and bested the Atlanta Hawks 121-pts-108 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1310 lead of 3-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 6-0 and a Game 4 record of 6-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Atlanta Hawks have a series record of 0-7 and a Game 4 record of 2-5 (with an active four-Game 4 losing streak). The Atlanta Hawks become the 339th MLB/NBA/NHL team to face a three-games-nil deficit in a best-of-7 playoff series, and will attempt to become the sixth MLB/NBA/NHL team and the first NBA team to surmount that deficit. The Cleveland Cavaliers trailed the Hawks in Atlanta by eight points at halftime and by six points after three quarters of series 1310 Game 3: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games since 1947, inclusive, road teams down eight points at halftime had a 22-86 (.204) game record, while road teams down six points after three quarters had a 12-82 (.128) game record.

After Game 2: The Cleveland Cavaliers hosted and defeated the Atlanta Hawks 123-pts-98 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1310 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 9-0 and a Game 3 record of 7-2 (with an active three-Game 3 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Atlanta Hawks have a series record of 0-13 and a Game 3 record of 6-7. Cleveland led Atlanta 74-pts-38 at halftime of series 1310 Game 2: That 36-point halftime lead ties that of the 1970 NBA Quarterfinals Game 3 (by the Milwaukee Bucks, in Philadelphia over the 76ers in series 224) for the largest halftime lead ever in a best-of-7 format NBA playoff game, and sets a record for the largest halftime lead ever by the home team in a best-of-7 format NBA playoff game.

After Game 1: The Cleveland Cavaliers hosted and defeated the Atlanta Hawks 104-pts-93 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1310 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 11-1 (with an active three-series winning streak) and a Game 2 record of 9-3 (with an active three-Game 2 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Atlanta Hawks have a series record of 1-19 and a Game 2 record of 7-13. Teams such as Cleveland in series 1310 which win Game 1 at home by 11 points have an 18-5 series record; one of the 18 winners was Cleveland itself, in series 975 (in the 2006 NBA Preliminary round, over the Washington Wizards).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2015-16 NBA regular season, the Cleveland Cavaliers finished nine games ahead of the Atlanta Hawks. From 1947 through the 2016 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by nine regular-season games, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 21-2 (.913) with an active four-series winning streak in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1310 is the 24th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the 31st for the Atlanta Hawks. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Cleveland Cavaliers have an all-rounds series record of 14-9, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 5-4, and a Game 1 record of 12-11, while the Atlanta Hawks have an all-rounds series record of 8-22, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 3-15, and a Game 1 record of 10-20. Series 1310 is the third best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawks. Cleveland won the previous two best-of-7 NBA playoff series between these two teams, in series 1079 (the 2009 NBA Quarterfinals) and series 1281 (the 2015 NBA Semifinals).
