SERIES NOTES:
After Game 7: The Pittsburgh Penguins hosted and defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-goals-2 in double overtime to complete a 4-games-3 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 victory. With the series 1332 win, the Pittsburgh Penguins improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 36-22 with an active seven-series winning streak befitting a defending NHL champion overall, and 6-4 in the Semifinals round. With the series 1332 loss, the Ottawa Senators see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 11-16 overall and 1-2 in the Semifinals round. The win order for the victorious Pittsburgh Penguins in series 1332 was LWLWWLW: Series 1332 thus becomes the fourth NHL Semifinals-round series, the 13th NHL series (all rounds), and the 23rd MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The victorious Pittsburgh Penguins advance to vie for the 2017 NHL championship against the Nashville Predators. The series 1332 Game 7 loss by the Ottawa Senators lowers their Game 7 record to a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL-worst 0-6.
After Game 6: The Ottawa Senators hosted and defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-goals-1 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 at 3-games-all. When tied 3-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a Game 7 record of 9-7, while the Ottawa Senators have a Game 7 record of 0-5. The 0-5 Game 7 record of the Ottawa Senators (irrespective of site) is a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL-worst. The home-ice Game 7 record for the Pittsburgh Penguins is 3-7. The road-ice Game 7 record for the Ottawa Senators is 0-4. Irrespective of win/site order, home teams in NHL Game 7s have a 98-70 (.583) record overall, and a 22-11 (.667) record in best-of-7 NHL Semifinals series (with the 22nd such win by the Pittsburgh Penguins themselves, in the 2016 NHL Semifinals).
After Game 5: The Pittsburgh Penguins hosted and shut out the Ottawa Senators 7-goals-nil to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a series record of 13-7 and a Game 6 record of 11-9. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Ottawa Senators have a series record of 0-5 and a Game 6 record of 2-3. The home-ice shutout by the Pittsburgh Penguins in series 1332 Game 5 is the most one-sided shutout since series 1327 Game 4, in which the San Jose Sharks hosted and defeated the Edmonton Oilers 7-goals-nil in the 2017 NHL Preliminary round (which in turn was the most one-sided shutout in a best-of-7 NHL playoff game in ten years).
After Game 4: The Pittsburgh Penguins visited and topped the Ottawa Senators 3-goals-2 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a series record of 13-8 and a Game 5 record of 12-9, while the Ottawa Senators have a series record of 2-5 and a Game 5 record of 5-2. Upon opening a best-of-7 NHL playoff series with a win/site order of LWLW @ HHVV (such as Pittsburgh has in series 1332), the Penguins have a 1-2 series record, with the sole win occurring in series 590, in the 1991 NHL Finals.
After Game 3: The Ottawa Senators hosted and defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 lead of 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Ottawa Senators have a series record of 10-1 with an active eight-series winning streak and a Game 4 record of 8-3. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a series record of 8-9 and a Game 4 record of 9-8. Series 1332 is the 12th best-of-7 NHL playoff series in which the Ottawa Senators have taken a 2-games-1 lead; in series 1332 and in 11 of the 12 did Ottawa win Game 3 for the 2-games-1 lead. The sole Ottawa best-of-7 NHL playoff series loss in the wake of a 2-games-1 series lead occurred in series 857, to their cross-province rival Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games in the 2002 NHL Quarterfinals.
After Game 2: The Pittsburgh Penguins hosted and shut out the Ottawa Senators 1-goal-nil to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a series record of 14-13 and a Game 3 record of 17-10, while the Ottawa Senators have a series record of 9-6 and a Game 3 record of 10-5. The sole goal in series 1332 Game 2 was by the home team (Pittsburgh) at 13:05 into the third period. Series 1332 Game 2 is thus most similar to series 1134 Game 7 (Tampa Bay Lightning at Boston Bruins, 2011 NHL Semifinals), in which the host Bruins scored the only goal of the game at 12:27 into the third period. Boston would proceed to win the 2011 NHL championship. In their last 11 best-of-7 NHL playoff series tied 1-game-all after two games, the Ottawa Senators had their series outcome determined by their Game 3 outcome (7 wins, 4 losses).
After Game 1: The Ottawa Senators visited and topped the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-goals-1 in overtime to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1332 lead of 1-game-nil. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a series record of 14-15 and a Game 2 record of 17-12 with an active four-Game 2 winning streak. With the Ottawa victory in series 1332 Game 1 and the Nashville win in series 1333 Game 1, the road team has won Game 1 in both NHL Semifinals series for the first time since 2006.

From 1939 through the 2017 NHL Quarterfinals round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 13 regular-season points, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 12-10 (.545) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1332 is the 58th best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the 27th for the Ottawa Senators.
